Bothell, WA Dental Sedation

One of the most common reasons for poor dental care is fear or concern about visiting the dentist’s office. That fear prevents many from getting the healthy teeth and gums they need.

Why We Avoid Dental Care

Every year, hundreds, if not thousands of people avoid a visit to the dentist due to fear of dental procedures. If you are one of these people whose experiences with the dentist have left you slightly concerned about the dental procedures and you are avoiding having dental work done, there are some options that you may not have considered.

Dental care today can be virtually pain-free and with minimal stress. The many ways in which dental care or dental procedures can be done are far more extensive than they have been in the past.

According to DOCS or the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, more than thirty percent of the population avoids the dental care that they need due to fear.

A healthy smile builds self-confidence and a positive mindset.

Sedation Dentistry – What is It?

Sedation dentistry or dental sedation is the use of medications that can render dental procedures pain-free and stress-free.

Dental sedation is used to create a relaxing experience at the dentist. Sedation allows people who are nervous or concerned about a dentist’s trip to relax and obtain the dental help they need.

What Types of Dental Sedation are used in our clinic at Bothell, WA?

Sedation can take several forms. It may be done via IV sedatives administered to the dental patient, or it may be done using nitrous oxide, an inhaled medication. The use of oral medicines may also offer it.

IV Sedation – When a professional uses IV, sedation can provide a very relaxing experience. The IV sedation induces intense relaxation and allows the patient to remain awake enough to respond to the requests that are made by the staff. Still, they will remember very little about what happened during the dental procedure.

Nitrous Oxide or laughing gas – is another method of dental sedation. It is a no-needle inhalation sedation method that helps you relax entirely and allows you to feel very little pain.

Oral Sedation – The most common method of sedation today is oral sedation. As the name implies, oral sedation is by mouth instead of inhalation therapy or IV sedation methods. It is easy, does not require any needles, and, as such, is far more accepted and user-friendly.

Sedation dentistry is a very positive method of helping you to relax and to be able to tolerate better the dental care that you need to stay healthy.

One thing to bear in mind is that while your pain tolerance with many of these methods will be much higher, it is still likely that you will require a local anesthetic or novocaine-type pain reliever when your dental procedure is taking place.
